A Concert by Westminster Composers

Belmar, NJ, April 22, 2009 - The Belmar Arts Council (BAC) is pleased to present Awakenings, a benefit concert by the young composers of Westminster Choir College (WCC) of Rider University. Enjoy the lush sounds of spring as your senses "awaken" to music for strings and solo piano. The program will be presented on Sunday, April 26th at 3PM at the Belmar Elementary School, 1101 Main Street in Belmar, NJ.

The debut compositions will be performed this Sunday by an elite String Quartet from the Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea, including Violinists' Gerry Ianco and Rafael Klayman, Violist Mura Kelly and Cellist Madeline Casparie. The Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea, conducted by Father Alphonse, has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Festival of the Atlantic, New Jersey's largest outdoor music festival. The four will be joined by double bassist Justin Ryan from Keyport, NJ.

Awakenings will feature works for string duet, string quartet and string quintet. The student composers are Aubrey Maks, Karol Nowicki, Daniel Halbstien, Michael Fili, Matthew Samson, David Zas, Robert Pegg, Nathan Jones, Cameron Wentz, David Foley and Patrice Malone. Audience members can expect to enjoy an afternoon of musical excitement, variety and creativity.

Following the concert, there will be a reception to meet the writers and musicians, with door prizes and 50/50. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Belmar Arts Council's education and outreach programs.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. For tickets and further information about this event, please visit the BAC website at www.belmararts.org.
