Belmar, NJ, April 22, 2008 - The Belmar Arts Council (BAC) announces a call for submissions to its first summer 2008 juried art show to benefit the Belmar First Aid Squad. The theme of the show is "I Love Belmar." The show, which runs from June 7 to 27, is open to artists working in all media, with submissions restricted to 36" x 36" or smaller. Entries will be received on Saturday, May 31st from 10 am to 1 pm at The Boatworks, Belmar Arts Council's headquarters located at 608 River Road. The exhibition will be on view Thursdays through Sundays from 1-5 pm. Fifty percent of entry fees and sales commissions will be donated to the Belmar First Aid Squad.

All artwork must be original and not previously exhibited in a BAC show. Two pieces per artist may be entered with the maximum of one piece to be accepted for exhibition. The entry fee is $15 per piece for non-members or $10 per piece for BAC members. Sales of work are encouraged but not required. An entry form and complete details can be obtained online at www.belmararts.org.

The BAC will hold three thematic shows for the summer of 2008. The second show, "Food for Thought", will run from July 12 to August 2. Fifty percent of proceeds from this event will be donated to the Belmar Food Pantry.

The third exhibition will showcase circular paintings. Twelve entries will be selected and applied to café tabletops for the Boatworks' new cabaret space. Artists interested in submitting work for the tabletop art exhibition must pick up their square pre-stretched canvas at the Boatworks on May 31 from 10 am to 1 pm. The entry fee for this show is $25, which includes the cost of a canvas that will be provided to each artist who enters. The works will be on display from August 9th to 27th. Entries will be received on August 2, with an opening reception scheduled for August 9th.

The programs of the Belmar Arts Council are funded by dues, donations and grants. BAC's events are made possible in part by the Monmouth County Arts Council through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, through the County Historical Commission, and the New Jersey Stats Council on the Arts/Department of State a Partner Agency of the National Endowment of the Arts.
