Belmar Arts Council Theme Show
Food For Thought

Call For Entries

Belmar, NJ, June 17, 2008 -The Belmar Arts Council (BAC) announces a call for submissions to a juried exhibition of art. The second in a series of theme shows planned for summer 2008, this exhibition will showcase artworks in all mediums following the theme "Food For Thought"

Edible subject matter has fascinated artists throughout history. We have an undeniable sensory connection to food -we love its taste, of course, but also its form, color, texture, aroma and even its sound (think sizzling bacon, pouring coffee and the "mmmm" elicited by a ripe peach). Food is also a subject of much discussion in modern society: its sources, quantity, quality, and price. It raises practical, ethical, and economic questions, and it is not equally available to all.

Fifty percent of the show proceeds will benefit the Belmar Food Pantry. Our Food Pantry exists to provide access to healthy food to neighbors in need. This art show challenges artists to share their interpretations of food and their thoughts about the subject.

The Boatworks at 608 River Road, Belmar, is the Art council's headquarters in the former Connolly Boatworks building. Artists interested in submitting work for the Food for Thought juried art show must drop off their art, Saturday, June 28th between 10 AM and 1 PM. The entry fee for this show is $10 per piece (members - maximum 2 pieces), $15 per piece (non-members - maximum 2 pieces). Present fee and application form with work upon delivery. Illegible and incomplete forms will not be accepted. The work will be on display from July 12th to August 2nd. 10 AM and 1 PM. The opening reception will be held on July 12th between 4 PM and 7 PM.

For more information, entry forms, show rules and directions to the BoatWorks, see our website www.BelmarArts.org. or stop by the Boatworks and pick up the forms.

Dues, donations and grants fund the Belmar Arts Council's programs. BAC Events are made possible in part by the Monmouth County Arts Council through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, through the County Historical Commission, and the New Jersey Stats Council on the Arts/Department of State a Partner Agency of the National Endowment of the Arts.
