Benefit Food Pantry
Belmar, NJ, May 12, 2009 - The Belmar Arts Council (BAC) announces a call for submissions to its first summer 2009 art show, Brave New Works, to benefit the Belmar Food Pantry. The show is open to members of the Belmar Arts Council and urges artists working in all media to submit newer work that is experimental and/or non-traditional. New members are always welcome. Submissions are restricted to 36" x 36" or smaller. Entries will be received on Saturday, May 30th from 10AM to 1PM at The Boatworks, Belmar Arts Council's headquarters located at 608 River Road. The exhibition will be on view Wednesdays through Sundays from 1PM-5PM.
Artists should note that all artwork must be original, created in the last 2 years, and not previously exhibited in a BAC show. One piece per artist may be entered. All entries must be framed and wired for hanging and/or ready to be displayed at time of drop off. The entry fee is $10 or a shopping bag of canned/packaged food that is of equivalent or greater value. Sales of work are encouraged but not required. An entry form and complete details can be obtained online at www.belmararts.org or at The Boatworks on the day of delivery of work, May 30.
The BAC has planned three thematic shows for the summer of 2009. From July 11 to August 1, the Boatworks Gallery will feature abstract art with its second theme show, titled "Metaphors." The show is open to all artists, 17 and up, and work can be in any medium but must be abstract.
The August exhibition, titled "Belmar Stories," will showcase a month of visual and performance art based upon individuals' experiences in Belmar. The BAC encourages photographers, poets, painters, sculptors, collage artists, musicians, dancers and videographers to tell their "stories" through their favorite medium.
The programs of the Belmar Arts Council are funded by dues, donations and grants. BAC's events are made possible in part by the Monmouth County Arts Council through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, through the County Historical Commission, and the New Jersey Stats Council on the Arts/Department of State a Partner Agency of the National Endowment of the Arts.
